Papendal and Eneco eMobility open charging plaza with 59 charging stations

With 59 new EV charging stations taken into operation, Papendal and Eneco eMobility have taken another step forwards in their shared ambition to effectively bring together sports and sustainability. Together the stations form a large charging plaza for athletes, visitors and employees of Papendal to park and charge their electric vehicles.
 

The Papendal Olympic Training Centre is situated inside a Natura 2000 area. For Papendal an extra reason to actively work on improving sustainability and energy-efficiency in its surroundings. To achieve this Papendal and Eneco have a close working relationship as strategic energy partners to gradually optimise the location’s energy management system, now with the addition of a large charging plaza.

Eneco eMobility developed the charging plaza and will also be operating it. This meant that Papendal did not have to invest capital for the acquisition. The 150 TeamNL athletes and employees who have an electric car can now easily charge here. The electricity comes largely from Papendal's own solar panels. This ensures optimal use of self-generated energy.

Besides the charging plaza and the solar panels, Papendal also has a thermal storage system within their energy management system. A large battery with smart energy management will be added later. This makes Papendal increasingly energy-efficient.
