Eneco and Gate terminal sign multi-year agreement

Energy company Eneco has signed a multi-year agreement with Gate terminal for the yearly throughput of one billion cubic metres natural gas to Eneco’s end users (customers and power stations).

Gas supply will start in september 2011

The supply of gas from Gate terminal at Rotterdam-Maasvlakte, with Gasunie and Vopak as main shareholders, will start in September 2011 when the terminal will be fully operational. Eneco will deliver the liquefied natural gas (LNG) by ship to the LNG import terminal. The LNG will be stored at the tanks of Gate terminal and then regasified. The natural gas will be supplied through the Dutch transmission network to Eneco’s end users.Director of energy company Eneco Kees Jan Rameau is delighted with the contracted LNG capacity. “We can only realise our sustainability strategy if the supply of gas for our plants and customers is guaranteed. Now that we also have access to LNG, we can contract gas from an even wider variety of sources and countries. Eneco has also deliberately chosen for the supply of gas through the LNG terminal to support the further development of the Netherlands as the gas roundabout.”
